We are pleased to host our first theatre event with Septimus Theatre, The Fables from the Great North Wood, Sunday 29th August 4pm start. Gates from 3.15pm (no entry after 4pm) Tickets £6 from Septimus Theatre on Eventbrite here
Fables from the Great North Wood is a series of short stories for two or more voices and a small band set around Lewisham and written by Robert Cole. If weather allows this will be performed outside in several locations around the Wilderness, or if wet we will be in our new covered outdoor classroom. We have chairs but feel free to bring a chair if you have a comfy one. Please feel free to bring your own drinks/ refreshments but all rubbish must be taken home.
Set largely in Lewisham, the piece is structured like a medieval English mystery play – street dramas that were originally performed by local artisans in York and elsewhere. The stories are concerned with mental health, belief, language, diversity, and knife-crime. They are thoughtful, peculiar and sometimes comic. They challenge ignorance among the educated. They celebrate woodland and traditional writing styles. They collaborate with musicians, artists, woodlanders, and campaigners for the green environment and safer streets. It tells stories suited to non-standard outdoor and indoor venues. We collect in support of local nature reserves and the Mizen Foundation.
Here is a snippet of text:
“Come walk with us in these leas and meadows,
entrust yourself to spirits and these trees,
fold yourself in greens and whites and yellows,
and breath your breaths of kindness, hope and peace.”
Written and directed by Robert Cole with Nichola Woolley, Michael Sookhan, and The Mocktales. Art by Nomis.
