The Mud Club – Woodwork Skills

A fortnightly outdoor woodwork skils club for for 4-10 year olds. Every other Saturday 9.30am to 1.30pm
Cost £25 run by Sue Dickson a trained Forest School leader and Ellie Weldman a Designer. Please note that this is a drop off session so adults do not need to attend. We also have a number of free places available to local families on low income – see info below.

A bit about us:
Sue is forest school trained and spends most of her working week with school children in the forest! Sue is a natural storyteller and captivates her audience into her magical lands.  Ellie is most at home outdoors either tending veg or wandering woods or beaches and star gazing round a campfire. She is an Interior Designer by trade but loves to make and create things out of wood and other natural mediums.

Sue and Ellie set up this club with a view  to offer a substantial chunk of time of outdoor discovery to their small friends who no longer have this time having started school.  The club was then fondly named MUD CLUB – Wood Work Skills. Sue and Ellie’s focus on helping these small humans to develop wonderful woodwork skills at such a young age is a passion in itself!  Something which is often missed from the current school curriculum at primary level but such a special life skill. These skills will develop their hand eye coordination and fine motor skills. The skills set them up for helping with DIY at home and understanding sculpture as a form of art! The children find palm drills exciting to try and delight in using different grades of sandpaper to make their wooden creations deliciously smooth to touch!

The children of MUD as they are so fondly called, feel free and in control of their decisions for these 4hrs every other week. They choose what to do, when to eat their lunch, test their boundaries and form extremely lovely bonds with each other. Ellie and Sue gently keep them safe and have a whole host of magical projects that the children can get involved in. They go away with such beautiful creations which they work so hard on and feel so proud to take home! Necklaces, beads, framed artworks, weaving onto stick frames and drilling through pieces of wood which they carefully thread wool through, wands etc.

Mud club operates in all weathers (except a proper storm) and the Wild Cat Wilderness allows them to keep warm round a campfire whilst benefiting from the enclosed safe space with plenty of room to explore and play. W are so pleased we are able to also offer some free places for local low income families. These are limited and available depending on status.
