Wild and Free – summer at the Wild Cat Wilderness

Book now for our activities – nature club, wildlife activities, leaf printing, campfire cooking, whittling, natural creative activities, all about bees, butterflies, stick day, fruit picking, bushcraft, whittling and woodcraft, charcoal making.

Some activities are more suitable for slightly older children and adults so please check the suggested ages.

Morning and afternoon sessions available for some sessions. Book via the What’s On page of the website https://wildcatwilderness.org/whats-on/ and choose the number of places for both adults and children in the drop down box. All activities free unless otherwise stated but donations towards our charity really welcome. Some events have limited places and please be aware of last entry times.

Wear suitable outdoor clothing and bring water/drinks plus feel free to bring a packed lunch/ picnic. Please take all rubbish home, as we don’t have a bin.

Entrance – gate next to no 53 River View Park, Catford SE6 4PL. Just off Catford Hill, Exbury Road. On street parking and 10 mins walk from Catford Bridge.

Sunday 26^th June 10-12 – please arrive by 9.45 so we can start on time. No late entry.

Repeats on Wednesday 6^th July 4-6pm – please arrive by 3.45 so we can start on time. No later entry.

Join Caroline and to learn how to prune stone fruit trees (plums, cherries).

This is a hands on session and you will be helping to prune the wonderful plum trees at the Wild Cat Wilderness. You will be guided in how to identify what to cut, save and train in the summer months.

Nature club Jubilee activities Book now for our half term adventures – make a wooden medal or disc necklace and make a nature crown ready for the jubilee celebrations. For both events there are morning and afternoon sessions with plenty of time to explore and play. Please note the last entry times. Book here All children should be accompanied by an adult with up to x5 children per adult. Bring a packed lunch/ snacks and drinks and a phone to ring for entry. Dress for the outdoors and the sessions will take place even if it rains as we will use the outdoor classroom. As places are limited if you book and then can’t come please let us know well in advance by emailing wcw@rgtb.org.uk If you book and then don’t turn up or let us know then you wont be allowed to book for future events.

Starting this Friday (20th May) all you budding artists can join us on a Friday morning at our amazing Community Greenspace for some outdoor creativity with the Rushey Green Timebank. The Wild Cat Wildetness is full of inspiration, with an abundance of wild flowers, plants, trees and wildlife plus an orchard, dye garden, food growing garden and some sculptures. 

We can provide you with art materials such as charcoal, pencils, water colours and paper or you can bring your own sketchpad. We’ll be drawing and painting in the Orchard, close to our outdoor classroom that can provide shelter in case of bad weather.

Bring a thermos, cold drinks or water and maybe lunch or a snack, and spend a few hours studying mother nature. The informal sessions will be run by Louise Cain, (an artist who has worked with us for years and more recently did the Wild Wonder Wall with us), will set a project each week, or you can bring your own work and ideas.

The weekly Friday morning sessions start on the 20th of May at 10.30-13.00

Wassail – celebrate our fruit trees 23/1 2-4.30

Did you know that the Wild Cat Wilderness is classified as a veteran orchard because of our many old trees, plus over the past few years we have planted a new orchard?

Our first community event of 2022 will be a wassail on Sunday 23rd Jan 2.00-4.30pm which is an ancient custom of visiting orchards and reciting incantations and singing to the trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year.

There will be instrument making, a story around the campfire, singing and a procession visiting our old and new apple trees. Followed by  mulled cider and apple juice. Please bring any instruments.

All welcome but places are limited so please book a space for every adult and child. Bring a torch as it will get dark.
