We are sorry to say that the Wilderness has been the victim of some terrible vandalism over the past week. We have been broken in four times and on two occasions they maliciously attacked our hives and tried to drown our bees. Such mindless destruction of our wonderful pollinators. We have lost one colony and have broken hives but hope they might survive. We have now had to remove the bees off site until we improve the security.
The vandals have also destroyed the pond several times, broke into the shed, slashed the outdoor classroom and water butts, destroyed a hand built fence and our bug hotels – in fact everything that our wonderful community created. Due to the support of our lovely volunteers we have began to rebuild our wonderful green space so it can be enjoyed by all again.
We have set up a bee appeal to replace a hive, build an apiary cage, increase the security and set up a new project to engage local young people in beekeeping and making bee related products. We want to try make something positive out of the negative. Please give what you can. thank you. https://localgiving.org/appeal/beeappeal/
The bees will return once we have upped the security and built an apiary cage. https://localgiving.org/appeal/beeappeal/
If you want to help out then we will have extra volunteer days including Weds 12th 2-4pm, Thurs 13th 12-3pm. For other dates check the Whats on page.
Many thanks to all those who have helped already.
