Visit the What’s On Page to book for volunteering on a Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, for Nature squad fortnightly on a Saturday afternoon or the new date for Be Wild our adult only forest school.
Be wild – adult only forest school for Lewisham residents.
We believe that not only children should get to play.

When did you last climb a tree or make a fire? Could you make a hedge out of branches or a natural instrument out of wood? Can you be creative with leaves? A taste of some of the things we might do in our adult only session at the Wilderness.
Feeling a bit stressed or anxious due to Covid? Just fancy being outdoors having fun as a break from your routine? We will be a small group of 6 adults who will socially distance and activities will be based on ability. As places are limited then please don’t book unless you can definitely attend. Places are limited to Lewisham residents over 18 so proof of address will be required for this free session. Please be on time as no late entry after 10am so we can start promptly. If we get alot of interest we will repeat this session.
We are now releasing bookings on a weekly basis for the following week’s activities so book in via the whats on page for your dose of nature. Please note that activities might repeat the following week so please don’t book again and allow others attend.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions we are limiting these sessions to x5 people and to 1.5 hours. So please book per person, adult and child so we can monitor numbers. We have a big site but to protect our team and you, we ask that you social distance from other people whilst at the Wilderness unless you are from the same household or have formed a bubble. To book choose the number of places in the drop down box. It might not have the number of places you want as we have reached capacity for that session. So please don’t just book less places as you will be turned away if you turn up with more people than your booking. Thank you and please bear with us during this time.
We are so looking forward to welcoming you back. This week we are trialling a new activity called Nature Squad for all ages on Friday. So please sign up for Nature Squad on the 31st July.
Join us for some outdoor activities in our wonderful community garden and greenspace for all ages and abilities. We will be doing a variety of things including helping out in the garden and polytunnel, nature hunts, wild play, helping the wildlife, fruit picking, learning how to make a fire, learning about bees, den building and bushcraft skills.
This week we will be doing a butterfly count, wild play and some fruit picking.
These sessions are for everyone and any age. No experience necessary and all equipment is provided. Please bring water, food and hand sanitiser. Wear outdoor clothes – sturdy shoes and clothes which you don’t mind getting dirty, plus bring your waterproofs if you have some as we will still go ahead if raining and do something undercover. You will be required to wear gloves if handling any tools so if you have gardening gloves or plastic gloves please bring some. All rubbish must be taken home with you.

We grow all our produce following Garden Organic’s, Organic Gardening Guidelines https://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/organic-guidelines and use organic, peat free compost and recycled pots. Please note we are not a commercial grower and we reserve the right to change or replace the contents depending on what’s available and growing. Some plants might be almost fully grown and others smaller seedlings depending on demand. We will also provide you with some advice and tips on planting and potting on and you can always ask by advice via social media. Sorry but we can’t customize the kits so please don’t ask as we are trying to keep this simple. However you can add some of our fresh produce to your order of salad or kale (subject to availability).

We are only delivering to these postcodes SE6, SE4, SE13, SE23, SE26, SE22 and to the premises first door, so if you live in a flat you will need to accept delivery from the communal entrance and we will call you upon arrival.

As this week we were supposed to have some Easter activities we thought we would share them with you so you can do it yourself.
It is spring so it is the start of nest building for birds. Birds start building their nests, flying to and from their nesting sites often in trees looking for things to make their nest. Have you seen a bird flying with a twig in its mouth? Then its a bird is building it’s nest. It is building it’s home. It’s building the bed where it will lay its eggs and where it’s babies will be born, where it will stay safe and where it will live until it flies. Go outside to see if you can spot bird’s nest building, or watch from a window, then encourage your child to make a nest. Watch this You Tube video of a Robin building its nest here. You can download a nest identification chart here.
This project encourages children to really think like birds and make something interesting, testing ideas and problem solving. Ask your child how they think a bird makes its nest and see what they say. Then tell them they are going to be like birds today and make a nest.
In your own garden or whilst out walking in a local park or green space ask your child to collect items that a bird might use to build a nest, only use natural materials like twigs, feathers, grass and leaves. When back home in the garden or indoors (on a tray or large piece of paper) if you don’t have a garden encourage your child to build a nest strong enough to hold an few eggs. When they have finished, test it out by putting some small Easter eggs or small stones inside. You can download the activity sheet here.
